Pop into Chicago, on your way to Alaska

One of my favorite movies is Victor Victoria, there is nothing like a good musical, in my opinion the best song is this one, click here to view. A great tune, I have some old friends in the area and would love to visit, Chicago is a difficult city to fit with a cruise, until now that is, check out this smashing holiday, Chicago, Seattle and Alaska

Alaskan cruises are visually stunning as you might imagine, the towering snow caped Rockies, flat calm inland waters, frontier architecture, colourful locals and ancient temperate forests carpeting the landscape. Sheer cliffs of ice blue glaciers canyon through rock on its thousand year journey to the pacific ocean, all this you will see on an Alaskan cruise, but what might you see? Alaskan wildlife is abundant but elusive, if you are really lucky you will see a grizzly bear on shore as you glide by or you may glimpse a startled moose. You will probably see many Bald Eagles, once an endangered species, now after many years of protection are abundant. You may well witness one of these graceful birds glide down and scoop out a wild salmon. You have a great chance of seeing one of the cutest animals alive, a Sea Otter.
Once hunted to near extinction by fur trappers in the late 19th century Sea Otters, though very shy have made a great recovery and can be seen close to the shorelines right up through the inside passage, particularly in the Sitka areas. To have the best chance to see these wonderful characters I recommend that you take a kayak tour, available from the tour office onboard your cruise ship. It really is worth every effort too paddle the mile or so and see these playful creatures.

However the crowning glory for any expectant cruiser is surely to see a humpback whale. Your chances are good, better if you cruise earlier in the season , May and June is the time the humpbacks migrate north for the summer. You may even, while strolling out on the open deck enjoying the late evening light of the Alaskan summer, with a glass of wine, witness a humpback breach in the wake of the ship, a memory that will stay with you forever………I know, it happened to me.

Keys to Ascension and other out of the way places

Its it amazing how one day your mind wonders and you start thinking of places in the world you would like to visit and you will say to yourself 'not many cruises go there' and, hey presto the very next day a customer phones up and books a cruise to the Scilly Isles, it was one of the destinations that crossed my mind, Adonia, P and O's small ship is doing a nice trip in May next year, check out this itinerary
Southampton, England (29 Apr); Tresco, Isle of Scilly (01 May); Guernsey, Channel Islands (03 May); Honfleur, France (04 May); Southampton, England (05 May), very nice, certainly worth a trip.

The places that really had my mind working overtime where the Ascension Islands and St Helena, which have to be two of the most isolated places on earth and guess what ? you can cruise to both on the same cruise, click here for details.

Here are some great images that make me want to visit and perhaps may tempt others.

If you fancy a cruise of a lifetime, call me on 08004086147 and I could set you on a path to Ascension

Crystal Serenity, Heaven On Earth - Its True

According to many, the best cruise line in the world and having sailed with Crystal and worked with many cruise lines over a period of 18 years I agree they come pretty close, just read my other blogs.

I enjoyed my cruise, worth every penny
I have some great offers on with Crystal at the moment and this one is definitely worth a try, if you enjoy suites on Cunard and Celebrity but have always wanted to try the next level, then this is the next step up, all inclusive with drinks and gratuities, first class service and the best space ratio of any ships, I can vouch for this during my 12 night cruise we never had to queue and there was always space on the open decks, no sprint for the shows either and to top it all, open dining at a table for 2 every night all pre-booked before we even cruised.

For a taste of real luxury, try this cruise:

A Quantum leap from Wet t shirt competitions to Dodgems....

Cruise ships have moved on so much since I first stepped on board back in 1985, I did work on some rough ships back then, so rough in fact that the daily entertainment consisted of beer drinking relays across the decks for the boys and wet t shirt competitions for the girls, but more for the boys, I guess. It really is astounding how things have changed especially reading the latest on Royal Caribbean's new ship, the Quantum Of The Seas, launching autumn 2014.

With cruises from NYC the Quantum will be a  good option for UK cruisers, the cost of flights to NYC can be lower than most trans Atlantic flights
The new ship will offer Dodgems

and a Sky Diving simulator, check this video for all the inside info, not sure about the one pod London eye ish ride at the beginning, having just experienced the one in York in a bit of a gale I think I will decline that, heights aren't my thing, The sky diving simulator looks like fun though, sky diving closer to sea level although you do end up looking like a character from a Wallace and Gromit film, having your cheeks pulling a few g's

Cruise ships are becoming more innovative with each new launch, with dodgems what could be next, candy floss ?
